This method statement describes the sequential approach for the installation of the Public Address System as per the contract requirements. This method statement aims to ensure that quality assurance and quality control activities are adopted in a systematic manner in accordance with project specifications.

Works will be started or carried out only when all associated main contractor’s procedures are completed and by ensuring safe access to work areas will be available through hoist lifts/access ladders to carry out the work where ever main contractor site engineer’s & safety officers clearance available.

MEP subcontractor will deploy a dedicated team for the required logistics and material movement in–out of the site.

Responsibilities
Project Manager
The project manager shall be responsible for overall project planning, procurement, technical submissions, and drawing submissions,
He shall coordinate activities within the site team and with the management for the timely completion of activity in accordance with contract requirements.
Construction Manager
The construction manager is responsible for the work execution in compliance with the approved method statement, HSE Risk Assessment, project specification, issued for construction drawings, sections, and details.
Site Engineer
The site engineer is responsible to carry out the work as per approved shop drawings and method statements. He is also responsible to ensure adequate tool kits required for the works are in place prior to the starting of work. The site engineer reports to the Construction Manager.
The Site Engineer is responsible to ensure work has been done as per the specification and drawings; inspections are carried out based on ITP and quality control procedures and coordinate with QA/QC department for inspections.
The site engineer is responsible to ensure that all safety precautions are ensured in place and that all personnel on-site are using the required personal protective equipment like helmets, gloves, shoes, and reflective jackets. The site engineer in coordination with safety officers will ensure all relevant permissions are taken prior to the commencement of works.
The site engineers shall ensure that the works are supervised by a competent supervisor till the completion of the task.
QA/QC Engineer
The QA/QC Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the quality requirements and quality control measures for the project in coordination with the project engineer and construction manager.
Safety Engineer
The Safety Officer will be responsible for the safety, health, and environmental aspects on site as per the safety and environmental requirements/safety standards in coordination with the project engineer and construction manager.
Methodology – Method Statement for Public Address System
Site Planning & Preparation
Before installation takes place, the following pre-installation task is essential:
Identify and ensure that pertinent documents (e.g. shop/coordination drawings, Method Statement for Public Address System) are latest and approved.
Applicable permits shall be applied prior to the commencement of works.
Ensure correct (approved) cables, fittings and accessories are on hand.
Conduct site safety briefing prior to commencement of work.
Identify and obtain appropriate installation tools.
Determine the staffing required and assign tasks to team members.
Secure the working area and set up signs (where applicable) to alert anyone of danger in the area.
Notify appropriate personnel that work is to start/begin.
During the nighttime, working areas should be marked prominently with lights and there should be an arrangement to ensure uninterrupted operation of these lights throughout the darkness.
Handling of Materials
Upon receiving the materials, all must be inspected and ensured that there are no manufacturing defects or delivery damages.
The materials shall be handled with care and shall be stored in designated areas.
The controller, amplifier, speakers, and accessories shall be unloaded with care to avoid any damage. If they are shipped in packs or pallets, each pack of pallets shall be lifted individually with suitable lifting equipment.
Every precaution shall be taken to preserve their cleanliness before installation.
All materials shall be delivered to the site with the manufacturer’s seals, labels, or other proof of origin intact.
These labels and seals shall not be removed until the cable is required for use and shall be retained for inspection by engineers.
Any gadgets of public address systems & accessories shall be protected from direct sunlight and/or from direct water contamination.
Rise the material inspection base on the material delivery.
Installation Procedure of Public Address System
General
The following information in these sections is meant to be a guideline in the handling and proper installation of the public address system (Racks, Paging station, Music sources, Ceiling speakers, Wall mount speakers).
System Description
The public address system is required for day-to-day use to provide multiple functions where the required function to be used is.
At the same time, a voice alarm system is required to activate voice evacuation messages in case of fire or any other live emergency announcement that is required to be broadcasted for the entire building or as programmed according to the emergency events.
The public address system shall be interfaced with the fire alarm system so that in case of fire alarm reporting on certain floors, pre-recorded audio messages shall be activated and broadcasted via the public address loudspeakers of the floor.
It is recommended to ensure that the timbre, as well as the levels of the inputs, are equal as possible, in terms of natural sound and sound level.
Identify the right components for the right location
Prior to shifting from the store, identify the type and range of public address systems required for the intended location. The exact location of the instrument shall be obtained from the relevant drawings.
Check the components with relevant data sheets and drawings for the correct part number. Stick the correct tag number that is obtained from the drawings.
System wiring and cable pulling
Verify the conduit route and pulling box and measure the cable length required.
Use a fish-type cable pulling spring from one end to run along the conduit length. Attach the other end to the cable using tape and start gradually cable pulling.
Mark the cable ends with identification as in and out.
Mark the cable ends with zone identification labels inside the rack.
Ensure no cable sleeve is damaged during the process of cable pulling.
Ensure no ground conductor of the cable is exposed or in contact with the trunking.
For external cable, pulling verify the drawings and cable routes. Understand the manhole/handhole route in order to calculate the cable lengths.
Insert the cable duct rod inside the manhole and tie the other end with the cable.
In the middle stretch of the manhole, the route deploys at least one person for proper cable pulling, to avoid any sort of insulation damage.
Wiring within racks shall be installed in a neat and workmanlike manner and shall be trained parallel with or at right angles to the sides and back.
All zone cables shall be marked and others shall be labeled clearly.
Install public address devices, wiring, and main gadget as indicated, in accordance with the manufacturer’s written instructions, requirements of applicable standards, and in accordance with recognized industry standards to ensure that installation complies with requirements and serves an intended function.
Coordinate as necessary to interface the installation of the public address system with other work.
Protect all equipment from dirt, moisture, and construction debris.
All wiring shall be tested for grounds (free from the earth) or crosses between conductors.
Circuit wiring from the panel to the system peripheral equipment will be as per the system manufacturer’s recommendations.
The system was arranged to receive an AC power supply, of 240 volts, and a 50 Hz AC supply through an industrial power socket outlet.
The final connections between the system and the wiring are made under the supervision of a trained manufacturer’s technical representative.
All wiring shall be retardant and comply with BS 6387 category CWZ.
Joints in cables shall be made only at accessories unless otherwise agreed with the Engineer when the joint box shall be detailed on record drawings.
The speaker shall be installed as indicated in the shop drawings.
Outdoor speakers need to be the weatherproof type.
Ceiling-mounted speaker back boxes must be supported by the structure and not the suspended ceiling grid or tiles or as coordinated with the construction. Speakers should be connected to the specified taps.
Pre-Installation Work for Public Address System
Ensure that all approved materials are available to carry out the work.
All the public address system components and accessories received at the site are to be inspected as per the approved material submittals, packaging list, delivery note, and purchase order.
All received materials shall be checked if free from visible damages, deformities, or missing parts/components.
Any deficiency found during the inspection must be reported to the supplier.
Store all materials in a safe place and they should be easily identified, free from dust, and protected against moisture and dirt.
The site supervisor and foreman ensure that proper tools are available to carry out the work.
Ensure that a relevant work permit is available.
Installation of Speakers (Ceiling Mount)
Refer to the installation detail drawings before proceeding with the installation of any system.
Refer to the approved reflected ceiling layout plan and mark the location for the speaker cutout.
The speaker dome shall be supported via a threaded rod mounted on the slab.
Tighten the speaker dome onto the support and take the cable inside the dome.
Make the termination onto the speaker terminals.
Insert the speaker into the dome and make the side locks tighten the speaker inside the dome.
Upon completion of installation, the cable must be labeled.
Installation of Speakers (Pole Mount)
Refer to the installation detail drawings before proceeding with the installation of any equipment.
Cables are to be pulled inside the tent pole with an access opening provided on the pole.
Mark the location of the speaker on the pole and make a hole for cable penetration. All openings shall be closed tightly using silicon.
The pole bracket is to be fastened onto the pole using the stainless steel cable tie.
Terminate the cable onto the speaker using a cable gland onto the edge of the cable and mount the speaker.
Upon completion of installation, the cable must be labeled.
Installation of Controller & Amplifiers (Applicable for rack-mount servers)
Install the amplifier into the rack as per approved shop drawings.
Secure the chassis to the rack, and use four screws with the washers to prevent marring the front panel. Make sure that air can circulate freely behind, beside, and above the chassis for adequate ventilation. Do not cover or block the vents.
Connect the input and output cables and devices, then connect the power AC to the amplifier. After installation of the amplifier, ensure proper installation test method & ITP are carried out as stated below.
The equipment installed inside the racks is as per the approved rack elevation drawing and is not physically damaged.
Ensure equipment is properly fixed and rack screws are tightened properly.
Check termination of cables to equipment is correct as per the approved schematic drawing.
Check that cabling management is installed and ensure proper routing, harnessing, and minimum bending radius are considered for all cabling works.
Check installed equipment and cables are properly tagged and labeled.
Power source
Work with both AC mains power and 24 V DC. The power amplifier should be rack-mounted.
Signal Generator
The generator must be totally solid state and create the chime signal which is comprised of two tones with a 200Hz difference. It must be able to generate a test signal to check the loudspeakers and the amplifier.
Desk Microphone Assembly
The desk microphone assembly should be designed to meet the number of zones needed (24 zones).
Training
All required training for stipulated installation activities is provided to all technical staff for ensuring a quality workmanship
Working Hours
Site operational time shall be followed as per progress requirements, and all relevant local authority schedules of holidays are to be observed.
Housekeeping
Working areas will be kept clean by disposing of the waste materials at the designated areas. At the end of the day’s work, the installation supervisor will ensure that the debris is disposed of during the course of the activity on a regular basis.
Dust created by work e.g. drilling, of the slab, grinding, and polishing. The area must be isolated/protected by a green net and required additional PPE for the operatives. Any materials stacked in the site shall neither obstruct the emergency evacuation route.

Third-party certification(competence certificates) for workers, operators, equipment valid registration, insurance, and fitness certificates, and operator daily inspection checklist should be available for safety officer validation before commencing the works.
